Watched it last night, really enjoyed it, missus thought it a bit meh, and daughter (teenage, Stranger Things mad), loved it.
That it's rated so highly (reception and viewing figures), and there are other books, bodes well for a sequel 👍

i gave up shortly after the train scene... the posh kid did my head in. it totally wasnt aimed at me, i just wish i'd known that before i sat down to watch it, so i wouldnt have wasted my time, leaving it too late to start another movie before bed...

I must admit to having doubts at that exact moment. The posh boy did not give a good impression but he is/was actually really good in the movie. It definitely got better after that 👍🏻

What’s wrong with being posh (sic) or having am RP accent (asking for a friend ) ?

I loved it and recommended it to couple of American friends recently moved to London from the USA and they thought it was enthralling - whetting their appetite to visit the English countryside and country house and avoid Limehouse (although it was filmed in Greenwich and the RA scene at The Treasury ! Bizzare lol)

I have very broad taste from working class movies (which I cant relate to in my life but appreciate the writing) to foreign Language films etc (SCFI and Horror leave me cold)

I read your post the other day and idly wondered what you meant about a fourth wall but maybe not enough to ask or google.

DH has just told me he watched it last night. He thought the plot was so-so, acting was good, very watchable and said he thought “breaking the fourth wall was done very well”.

So I have now been enlightened, that is my new thing learned today.

Yep, she talks to the camera a lot. Normally I don’t like that, but it was done well in this case.
