Thanks everyone I really appreciate all of the advice. Edging towards August because I've worked out the kids will have a bit more time to recover from the jetlag. Just going to drive myself crazy trying to get a decent flight price. If I booked for August direct with Disney and couldn't get decent flights would they let me swap it to May if there was availability?

I would be tempted to do what I call " soft DIY " in that you book your accommodation and tickets direct with Disney. This gives you direct contact if there is a problem ( I dislike dealing with third parties)

I would then look to book flights directly with an airline, Virgin, Thomson etc

We did this for this year and it saved around £200 PP which is not much but enabled it to be slightly more customized . The flights are with Thomson but Thomson did not offer the Disney resort location we wanted, but this was an option on the main Disney site.

I definitely wouldn't worry about flight prices yet. The ones out at the moment are crazily high. BA Flydrives were really fairly priced for this coming August when released in September and then other airlines like Aer Lingus and Norwegian also come into the mix.

I wouldn't worry about flight prices either just yet. Our BA flydrive was £1700 for 2a & 2c fliying Manchester - Philly - Tampa for 9 - 25 Aug in the BA sale. There were some amazing bargains to be had for beg-mid Aug in the sale.

As for July/Aug, yes late Aug will be quieter but as long as you use the busy day guides and FP's July is great. Lovely heat and then a storm/rain shower to cool it all off.

Thanks everyone. To be honest I think I'm just over thinking everything because it's our first trip. I said to Dh last night that anytime of the year at Disney is better than not being in disney xxx

We always go August booked BA fly drive for cheap last Sept/Oct. August is hot and humid but very manageable and late August will definitely be slightly quieter. That said we are going early August this year I really don't think the crowds will make much difference to us. We use fast passes and EMH carefully and are not going to any other parks this year.
