Also civil service pensioners insurance covers up until 80 and provided you aren’t terminal and are fit to fly you are covered. I have had two cancers, DH heart attack and both have had various other illnesses/ailments. It’s great not to have to list all our conditions and worry that I have forgotten something.

Hi all. I'm still looking for travel insurance at a reasonable price. Just a couple more questions.

1. Does anyone know if it is possible to insure both of us separately as this seems to work out cheaper.

2. Would we have to be with the same insurer to do this, or could we use different ones.

3. Can the insurance policies be linked in any way, either both from the same insurer or different companies.

4. If so, how do we link them?

Sorry to be a pain.
Thanks
James

This time around Axa were best price for me. I took out a group policy so everyone would be covered the same and it would make it easier to claim if all on the same policy. Trouble if you are with different insurers, the second person would not declare the illnesses of the first so there could be issues around pre-existing conditions if you had to cancel. I would strongly advise to be on one policy as once the pre-existing conditions have been accepted, they are accepted for both persons cover. Also, I took out an annual policy as it was cheaper than a single one.

Also...I'm pretty sure here has been a case in the papers recently where a lad died abroad because the hospital withdrew treatment from him as his insurers had declared his policy invalid because he hadn't declared a prior illness.

This is it... I mean it's the daily wail but still...

I would always declare any conditions. I also have Atrial Fibrillation and have had three ablations which were unsuccessful and now take medication to control it. Also have other medical conditions and this year Aviva have covered me and family for an annual policy for £314. I have checked and double checked that everything is covered.

They insure any condition. This is a new product. I have a couple of hard to insure conditions and was on the focus group when the details were being discussed. 👍

Go to the British Heart Foundation site, or the Special Needs site on the dibb, you will find loads of information.

I know its a tad long winded, but I think the industry need changing (yes, the prices will go up as a result) but it would be a good idea if the insurer obtained the health records of any person wanting insurance cover and then make a decision based on their doctor notes, then nothing can be forgotten missed or not declared etc and genuine cover is in place...

Travel insurance hate doing as it takes me over an hour to get through their questions.

I have cystic fibrosis, had a double lung transplant, thyroid cancer & removal of the thyroid & finally I am diabetic. On 28 tabs a day, 5 insulin injections & 2 nebulisers. So score very high on their points systems. I have used world first for the past 2 yrs for cruising round Europe. Was dreading the Florida quote this year. It was £120 for both me and hubby who takes meds for high blood pressure & colestol.

It is important to get insurance from the same place because if anything happens to one of you. Other insurance may not fly you home together or pay for any expenses ie extra nights whilst waiting for the other one to be released from hospital or expenses to the hospital etc. My husband was added onto mine for I think it was £20 only even with those medical problems he has. There are lots of insurance company’s that my cr & transplant friend use. Not sure if I can list them on here. But pm me if you like or if you’re on fab look up the fireman heart & lung. It’s not a closed group 7 type holiday insurance in search & the the posts will all come up. Have a great ho,iday & good luck with getting your insurance. 🙂

Considering, nothing has changed except that I have gone another year without any problems, it seemed like they were ripping me off.

I'll head back to the internet and see what I can find. I notice that there are quite a few recommendations on another thread.

Thanks

Insurance companies often try it on after the first year (introduction offers etc). It's always worth phoning them up and saying you understand 10% but 100% it not realistic with no change of health. It's amazing how many times they can give a different deal.
