Dvla will fax a copy to the rental company for £6. As it comes direct from them it has a good chance of it being accepted by hire co, even though it's not the original

I am very surprised to hear people say they've been asked on every trip. 25yrs of visiting and none of us have ever been asked for the paper part as long as we've had the new photo licenses. Including a stop by the police, and we've hired cars from probably the majority of the main car hires over the years. They are not even issuing the paper parts anymore quite soon.

we have never had to show the paper part (although we do take it with us) and even had a minor bump last year - photo part was fine. I am not sure though how many times we have been with Alamo as I have no loyalty - just go with the cheapest!

I'm in the camp who has never been asked for the counterpart, at MCO or Fort Myers, in the 8 years since I renewed from paper to photo DL. I explained/showed the counterpart to our Lee County Sheriff friend and his colleagues, non were aware, or had seen, a UK DL counterpart, one asked could they write a speeding offence on it Lee County request a passport as further ID to accompany DL's.
Wonder how many days, months, years it will take for it to finally filter down to Fla/US car suppliers that as of the 1st January 2015 the UK photo DL paper counterpart is scrapped and info will be database stored... be fun explaining that one, perhaps we should hold onto them to appease Fla car hire red tape |

I wondered that too, but I reckon the main car rental chains in the UK tourist areas like Orlando will pick it up quickly enough. However the problem might be highway patrol or state troopers who haven't got he message. Try telling them they're wrong ...

W went and had booked with 2 different car hire.
We booked with dollar and had to show the paper part, however we had offered this and that's the only reason she looked at it. My father in law hadn't brought his and kept his mouth shut about it and wasn't asked. He was booked with Alamo . |

I've been going to Florida for 25 years and always take/carry my paper part with me, BUT, in all that time and probably 45 car rentals and a Police stop, I have never been asked to produce it! No consistency in their system! Pussycat
