Mobile Driving from LV to LA...

Hey folks, a group of 4 of us are doing 1 big round trip journey from Vegas to LA for the day in December.

We should be in LA for around 10am and will probably aim to leave by 10pm.

We will have our own car.

Can anyone suggest a few things we could do in that time frame, and also mention anything else to consider?

I have read that parking is quite pricy everywhere?

Thanks so much for your help.

Joe

Personally it seems a bit ambitious for a day trip. Google gives a 4hrs drive each way but that's without traffic and when you hit the outskirts of Los Angeles there will be traffic and lots of it. Might be better to have an overnight in LA.

I would also stay overnight. It’s not just a longish drive, it’s a very dull one. You can normally do it closer to three and a bit hours. I highly recommend a stop at Zzyzx en route. So creepy.

As to what to do... what do you like to do? Theme park, beach (probably too cold), tourists spots, food? There’s loads. If you’re looking for topline suggestions, maybe lunch in Marina Del Rey, a drive around the W Hollywood Hills, a stop at Rodeo drive, Instagram shot in front of the Hollywood sign...

I know, we would have loved to, but we have a wedding to attend and we could only give it one day.

I’m sure we will be fine, we have 4 drivers and can get back later if needs be

Hi firstly you need to see decide what you want to see as some of these could be 2 hours apart. Some people don’t realise the size of LA it’s a sprawling mass 100 miles across

You are wasting a Vegas day there is far more to see in Vegas in that time period than LA. I drove one way Vegas to Anaheim a fortnight ago it’s a boring drive and unless you want to stop at casinos under par to those in Vegas there is nothing. If you must go on a long day drive go to the Grand Canyon.

If this is the only way you get to see LA then go for it.

If you park in the shopping centre in Hollywood it isn't very expensive and you can see the sign and go and do the Chinese Cinema, walk of fame etc all there. \from there maybe across to Beverly hills and onto Santa Monica for the pier and then Venice Beach.

You could then maybe book a Warner Bros tour for as late in the day they do and come back across to do that before heading back to Vegas. Maybe the Cheesecake factory in Pasedena for a meal as its north east area.

I wouldn't try to do too much as it does take time to get around, but that should be achievable across the north side of LA in a day.

Griffith observatory is a great visit with great views. Be careful parking in LA though as if you park in a road against the flow of traffic you’ll get a ticket, we did! Also, the LA freeways are ‘mental’, some parts have up to 9 lanes either side, plus anyone can pass on either side of you. I’ve driven HGVs in the past all over this country, but it’s scary over there!

Whilst it should take 4.5 hrs often it’s far longer , you only need a accident and the traffic goes to pot , twice we’ve had it take 7 hrs going the other way ( LA-Vegas )

Parking isn’t expensive in LA , we parked in a multi story on rodeo drive this year and it was about $5 , it’s $15 valet parking at the Hollywood & Highland Center or the multi storey behind it is pretty much free if you get your ticket validated in a shop .
