Passports for Europe!

Hi, my sons passport runs from jan 2015 to end of August 2020. We have 3 trips booked so far this year, one to Spain in April, two to France all before his passport expires. As far as I am aware as long as passport is valid it will be ok. What I am worried about is the extra time originally added on, they have stopped doing it now but I think that’s in preparation for next year after transition period ends. Am I ok still using his passport or should I just renew it now. We may not go away again after our trip in August so maybe a waste if renewing it too soon if that makes sense! Thanks.

Personally i would renew it now before the April trip

fwiw my daughter is away skiing with the school at the moment & the school( and travel company) insisted everyones passport had > 6 months on as they didnt know post brexit what exactly would happen.. if one kid got refused entry they would all have to come back, seemingly nothing has changed but for the sake of 60 quid? i would play safe.

The rules on passports don’t change until January 2021 so that passport will be fine to use until then.

Only once we hit January 2021 will added months no longer count and 6 months will be needed.

As the UK has left the EU with a deal and is now in the transition period nothing changes.

Therefore if you have a valid UK passport you can travel in the EU exactly the same as before, therefore no need to renew for your 2020 trips.

Just to let yous know I tweeted passport office yesterday and they have tweeted back today his passport is fine and remains valid until expiry date so I’m not going to renew until we need. Thanks!
