Mobile Auschwitz tour?

Hi,

We are off to Krakow in a couple of weeks and the main reason is to visit Auschwitz - For those who have visited, I was just wondering did you book tours before you got there and if so who would you recommend?

Many thanks for any help 👍

We booked before we went with See Krakow. Also booked the Salt Mines tour with them. They were very good for both.

When you go to Auschwitz, you are allocated a tour guide there, so the tour operator is basically providing transfers and that’s it.

We booked the Auschwitz tour with Crakowtours through Expedia. Quidco are doing 12% cash back just now. The Salt Mines are really easy to do by public transport. Catch the bus from Krakow bus station and the journey is about £1 each way.
I would also highly recommend a walking tour. We did the Old Town Tour with Krakowexplorers. It is free, just tip at the end. The guide was entertaining and really knew Krakow. Also have a look at the Eagle Pharmacy. It is tiny but I found it really interesting. We bought a ticket which included Schindler’s factory museum, the Pharmacy and the Old Synagogue. These were also purchased via Expedia.

Hop you have a good time. We loved Krakow.

We booked through trip advisor before we went they are quite reasonable, we booked one with only 8 other people as we didn't want to do loads of pick ups, when you get there though you join other groups. I definitely wouldn't do it without a guide and recommend taking food with you on the transfer as there isn't much opportunity to stop to eat.
This was one of the most harrowing yet amazing experiences I've ever done.

Can I just ask those that might of travelled with children - I’m about to book a tour via Expedia and have just noticed it’s saying, not recommended for children under age 14.

My boys are almost 16 & 13, and they are the main reason we are visiting due to both of their interests in history. I realise it’s going to be a harrowing experience, but will my youngest be allowed on the tour? (The are both very respectful - we were shown around 9/11 by a survivor and a lady who had lost her brother in the towers, and whilst they were very moved by what they heard they managed well).

Your children sound very sensible and I am sure will be fine. Our daughter is 14 and was very interested in everything. I think the age is just a suggestion and it is up to the parents judgement. There were no other children in our group but we saw plenty of school parties.

We went in November and booked through the hotel before we went. I can’t remember the name of the company but we were herded around in a huge group and as we were at the back we couldn’t always hear our guide. If possible I would book one for a small group as a PP has mentioned, especially as you have your kids with you.

Trust me, they will allow your boys on the tour. I'm a holocaust educator and I've seen very young children on the tours. Personally I would never take children under 16 but you know your own children.

Personally I would book a taxi from Krakow to Auschwitz as the tour is done by Auschwitz guides and I'd book ahead directly with the museum.auschwitz/en/visiting/ as I'd want to spend more time in Birkenau and visit other blocks such as block 25 in Auschwitz which aren't on the 3 hour tour (you can self tour afterwards if not limited to a coach) the thing to research is how to get from Auschwitz to Birkenau, I think you can book a taxi for the day fairly cheaply.
