I notice from the 2020 uni thread that applications for student finance are open in England so just wanted to remind everyone to make sure they renew the application for our continuing students
Does anyone know when Welsh or Scottish students can reapply? It doesn’t seem to be available on Student Wales Finance website yet Has everyone got their second year accommodation signed for now? Georgia and her friends settled on the Clifton Village house and it’s all signed for. The only issue is the first rent payment (quarterly) is due at the start of the contracted date which is 1 July, so when they have no student finance 😔 |

Molly has already sorted her finance for next year and I have completed my bit.
Dreading May/June, have to pay for 11 weeks accommodation for Newcastle on top of her last terms Sheffield accommodation and got to find the 1st terms rent for her new accommodation, so that is 3 different lots of accommodation out of her last terms maintenance loan, that definitely isn't covering it all 😱😭

Thank you for this, I had completely forgotten that we need to reapply, my DD is home at the weekend so I will get her to do it then. We also have the same money problem as her new accommodation runs from July to July so having to sort that out will be interesting. It’s cheaper per week but as we have to pay for the whole year it doesn’t save anything, on the plus side it is a lot closer to uni so will save bus and Uber fares.

No finance to sort out here😁
First day of term for DS - and all is currently via Zoom until at least the beginning of March due to the Coronavirus. He also has 2 exams this week left over from last term. Both have to be done via the PC and they have to record themselves via zoom again! I think he will be happy to get back into the rhythm of it all! |

Although I liked your post, I don’t think I should like it. That’s terrible, I was complaining about finding the first three months rent 😔 Poor you, that’s really difficult. I know that the loans are different here in Wales thankfully, I honestly think the English system must prevent many students going to uni now sadly

I hadn’t considered it until someone mentioned it to me a couple of weeks ago, it only seems a few weeks since we last applied 😀
Georgia’s rent is exactly the same but doesn’t include any bills and runs for 52 weeks so she will be much worse off. She also has a free bus pass this year which has been really useful. Her house next year is closer to uni so just a 10 minute walk, but the city centre is further away so she will need to cover some bus fares too |

Such a shame your son has to study via computer at the moment, but it’s definitely wiser to be cautious. It will be a strange experience doing an exam while recording himself 😀
Is he able to go out and socialise and see his friends on campus? I do hope it all settles soon there for him xx |

They do go out - having been there three weeks already he would have gone stir crazy otherwise! Despite its proximity to China there aren’t too many cases. He is being prudent!

Really need to sit down and work things out when she gets her final maintenance loan payment. The Newcastle accommodation payments take forever to claim back from NHS bursary🙁

Thank goodness for that, I was thinking he would be so bored stuck in all the time 😀
As you know, our eldest son teaches in Vietnam and there has been a few cases there. He said they are being extremely careful with using face masks and anti-bac hand gel. His apartment block and many buildings are also taking body heat readings when they enter and making them use hand sprays as precautionary measures. |
