We use BlackBerry cars to transfer euston to Heathrow hotel at £30
Also book train tickets either 11 or 12 weeks in advance. This can practically cut the cost in half

I point you to that last paragraph.

Just looking at train options, and I can see that your issue is being away for over a month, meaning you can’t get any kind of return ticket, even an open return.

However, with a railcard, and booking at around 11-12 weeks in advance of each date, you should be able to get two off-peak single tickets for around £150 for the five of you. (Obviously, prices usually drop at 12 weeks out, but I just put in your dates for a family of five on trainline, and it suggested two off-peak singles for £60 outbound and £90 return leg (can be used on any train that day excluding peak trains).) If you were delayed by more than a day on the return, it would be around £150+ to purchase a new on-the-day ticket, but I assume your travel insurance would cover the extra costs associated with a significant delay?

I’m not saying trains are the answer, but they’re definitely an option you should consider.

And getting back to the original post.

Not noticed anyone saying about hiring a car one way home to LGW and another to get home. This would negate leaving the lease car at LGW.
Migt be an option.

I think the problem is your lack of flexibility for whatever reason. You will not get cheaper train fares yet as the best ones come out around 12 weeks prior to travel. You will have no issues leaving your car for a month or if you do not feel your car had enough space one way car rentals are very easy to sort out. You will get free seating due to medical needs so you don’t have to factor in that additional cost. Upto you how many bags you want to add. If you really want to go the problems you are stating are tiny in the grand scale of having a month of family time and memories so find the best solution, get it booked and look forward to your holiday. We are a family of 8, go in July and the most we have paid since 2012 is £450 per person, the least £169.

You don’t get free seating for medical needs at all.

You will be able to choose seats for someone with a medical need and one carer

That’s not true with BA. Whenever my SIL has flown with them she has always been able to prebook seats for free at time of booking for their whole family not just for her and their additional needs son

Agree with this, I have medical issues as do my parents, and we’re on two separate bookings, they have seated us all together - 6 of us, free of charge. We’ve used special assistance with BA since 2016 and I cannot fault them.

I thought a poster said free seats. I was talking about free prebooked seats. That’s great about BA
