The word squint

Just read that squint - meaning not straight - is only really used in Scotland ? No way surely 😄 Was an article about Scottish presenter from Homes Under the Hammer, a window was squint and her cameraman didn’t have a clue what she was talking about 😂 So if you don’t say squint what do you say ?

Squint means in my language, to squint with your eyes, must be a Scottish thing then 😄

Yeah, we use it for to squint eyes, but if a picture isn’t straight on a wall say, then it’s squint 😄

Squint is your eyes.
Something not straight is skew wiff.

I wouldn’t say it now but growing up in Scotland I would say the picture is “squinty”
Or my mum used to say “squegee” 🤣

I honestly didn’t realise that this wasn’t used by everyone 😄 I bet there’s loads of words that we don’t think of as being a regional thing, unlike all the words on the other thread where most of us know that there’s lots of words for, if you know what I mean 😂

I’ve always grown up being told I have a squint in my eye? I’m sure it’s a genuine word used as a part of having a lazy eye...😂

Yes that too 😄 So your eye isn’t straight, just like a picture could be not straight = squint 😄
