Hard shell case or light soft one?
Any thoughts on luggage? Don't want to waste precious kgs on a big heavy case but are the light ones up to the journey and handling?

Be aware that if you arrive/depart during one of their torrential downpours, your cases can be left outside at the airport and everything inside a soft case potentially can get soaked. Have seen it mentioned quite a few times on here. For that reason alone I wouldn't go with soft sided.

Totally agree. I remember once watching a luggage cart at Dallas airport. A tornado warning had sounded and the handlers just left the bags on the apron. They were sodden. Hard sided every time.

I travel with hard sided cases, find they offer better protection that soft sided, but...I always pack one or two hold-alls for the return journey; filled with dirty washing generally so not bothered if they get wet, and my precious purchases in my hard sided case (or hand luggage obvs!)

Cheap cases if the material is not waterproof. Anything half decent will be water resistant so being out in the rain will make no difference.
I would always go with a soft holdall type bag as it adds so such more flexibility. I can see hard shell ones being ok if you are a one stop holiday kind of person, but when it comes to road trips they are just a pain. We do the latter so soft shell for us. |

Soft for us as we find packing hardshell cases too inflexible.

Always seems to be the hard shell cases that you see damaged , I presume it's because they don't stack well and hence fall off baggage trolleys etc. when being handled at the airport.

I’m a softie. I won’t buy a case that weighs more than 3kg.

Hard shell for us. We all had soft cases the first time and a storm started with the cases left outside. Everything inside them was soaked when we arrived home.

We currently have soft cases and I'm wondering is a waterproof spray might work 🤔
