Changing flights at Newark (NYC)

We are flying from Manchester to Orlando via Newark with United Airlines, The transfer time time between flights on the outward journey is in my opinion a little tight. The time being two hours fifteen minutes. Has anyone out there got any experience of transferring flights at Newark. Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Have done this lots of times from Edinburgh and that is ample time

You will likely need to change Terminal though and consequently will need to go through security again.

This can take a while so no comfort/coffee stops until you are back through security in the correct terminal.

Presumably, you know that you will go through immigration in Newark and will consequently need to collect your baggage and re-deposit it?

The benefit is you arrive at MCO as an internal passenger collect bags and walk straight out the door.

We’ve done this with a 90 minute transfer time and had plenty of time. I was worried about enough time so checked if united had flights out later in the day for if we didn’t make it. As it was united held the plane for people who had been delayed on another flight. I know this isn’t gauranteed but it happened when we flew with them

We've done this route lots of times. I think you will be fine. Ive done it just over an hour before today. I always request 2.5-3 hours now so we can have food and chill for a bit. You'll be fine x

When we did this with United AIrlines (from Glasgow) we didn't have to collect our baggage (inward or outward bound). Our luggage went straight through as we were on a through ticket.

I'd double check that with your airline so you don't do what we did and waste ages waiting for our luggage to discover it had gone straight through... and yes we then did it on the way back too

And yes, you'll have plenty of time as long as you don't faff about until after you've gone through security, then you can faff as much as you like.

You have to clear immigration, collect bags and redrop at the point of entry to the US.
Unless you pre-clear in the likes of Dublin or Shannon.

We didn’t with 90 mins. Immigration wasn’t the problem at all, straight through...but there are (were?) building works going on round security so that was a nightmare. Never seen queues like it.
We made it though so I’d be happy with your time

As tspill says below I can't understand how that happened on the way out.

On the way back yes, but not on the way out for the reasons they stated.

We have travelled this way a good few times now
