We didn’t have starters as we had been having small plates whilst drinking in the Alchemist, but according to my friends the starters are amazing.

I had ribeye which was amazing, another of our party had the rump steak and said it was better than mine after tasting it.

The mac and cheese for sure, but the beef fat chips and the spinach gratin were also brilliant.

Enjoy!

How exciting, almost here! Don't worry, the mac and cheese was actually quite good for plane fare 😂 Trip sounds fab, lots of special birthday memories to be made 👍 hope these few days go quickly for you!

They are going quickly so far! Got 2 more days at work although I finish at 2pm on Thursdays and 1pm on Fridays so more like one full day in the real world 😂

So exited! Thanks for following along ☺️

It’s pre-travel day!

We have finally made pre-travel day! It doesn’t quite seem real at the moment, but we’re both very excited.

I started the day with a bowl of porridge before leaving for the salon at 8.45am. Posting a photo for completeness!

I had my nails and feet done as well as an eyebrow wax, lash lift and tint.

I’m really pleased with my nails -

I didn’t leave the salon until 1.30pm by which time my DH had dropped our dog off at his sitters (for 3 weeks!) and tidied up.

We packed up the car and headed on the motorway north towards Manchester airport for twilight check in.

Around an hour into our journey we stopped at the services for KFC.

We both had a twister meal which was a wrap, one piece of chicken, a side, fries and a drink.

Gravy and 7up for me and beans and an aero milkshake for DH.

Cost was £23.67 for both meals.

It filled a gap, so did the job.

We arrived at Multi Storey West via the drop off lane at Manchester airport which cost us £5 for a twenty second drive through 🤬

Bags dropped off, we still had the seats we reserved in Premium tomorrow.

They had a large bowl of love hearts on the side at check in.

They validated our parking in the multi storey so at least we didn’t pay twice!

We’re stopping at Premier Inn Heald Green tonight.

We pre-booked the dining plan and had booked a table in the restaurant for 7.30pm.

There were a handful of people in the restaurant, but it bordered on unatmospheric as there was no music or anything playing.

This was the drinks menu -

And the food menu -

When the waitress came to ask for our drinks order we asked which drinks were included in the deal and she brought this additional menu -

DH ordered a pint of coors (and later ordered a second) and I had a Diet Coke.

First cheers of the holiday!

We didn’t seem to wait long at all and our mains came out.

DH ordered the mixed grill for a £2.99 supplement and I ordered the smothered chicken.

The plates were warm and the food was well cooked and presented.

We both rated our meals 4/5. It wasn’t a gourmet meal by any standards, but it was hot and tasty.

The service was ok - we weren’t asked if we wanted any sauces and no one checked if our meals were ok.

We had two courses included in our deal, so DH ordered the Crunchie cheesecake and I ordered the ice cream sundae (no whipped cream).

We both enjoyed these too.

DH said the cheesecake tasted like Crunchie and despite hoping the ice cream was soft serve (it wasn’t) it was still nice.

The waitress brought the bill out which DH paid whilst I was in the bathroom.

When I got back and checked it I realised we had been overcharged.

We should have only paid £7.94 for the £2.99 mixed grill supplement and for the additional Coors.

When we queried it after the manager said she owed us £5. I think it should have been nearer £6 but didn’t want to argue over £1 especially as she said the staff were all new after the changeover to the Premier Inn restaurant from Beefeater two weeks earlier.

She refunded us £5 and we have come back to the room where I’m now going to have a bath (having had to pick up extra towels from reception so I can wash/dry my hair).

We have booked breakfast for 8am, knowing we will be awake early in the morning.

And that’s it!

Can’t believe it’s pre-travel day…. So excited to be back in the magic.

I’m off now and will report back tomorrow for travel day!

Thanks for reading 🙏
