Flight from Cyprus and Border Controll

Flew back in from Cyprus last night to be greeted by Border Controll and Police requesting to check all male passengers and their passports on leaving the plane. Is this a random thing or is Cyprus high risk now?

They probably just had "intel" that there was a person of interest on your flight..
