Hollywood Studios Plan

Hi all, would like to get your opinion on my plan for Hollywood studios when we visit at the end of April.

As we know the fast pass selections for Hollywood studios changed a few months back which, in my opinion, means you can only select 1 of the handful or rides worth fast passing (I’m sure others will see it differently).

So my plan is to go on a non extra magic hour morning, get to the gates well before open and rope drop Galaxy edge to ride the two Star Wars rides ASAP.

Hoping that everyone will go to Star Wars and toy story land first, so we’ll head to ride tower of terror & the rock n rollercoaster hoping the queues are still reasonable.

In the afternoon, We’ll then use our tier 1 fast-pass for either toy story mania or the slinky rollercoaster and then line up for the other one

The idea by doing it this way is we’re hoping we’ll miss a lot of the long queues apart from the one longer queue in toy story land.

I appreciate we won’t avoid queues completely, but this is my plan to avoid as much of it as possible. Once we’ve used our tier 1 fastpass we’ll use our other 2 selections for some of the others.

Makes sense but you're going to need to be flexible on choosing the day to go. I couldn't get a slinky FP for first week of our trip 2 weeks ago but got one for our second.

Queue times for anything non-SW or TS were very low for our whole trip and even then Slinky and TSM only got to 90mins or so.

Would imagine it's because on EMH mornings everyone will flock to the Tier 1 rides they couldn't get FP for and the queues will be long before the park officially opens.

I’d get a tier 1 FP really early in the. Get the two other Fast passes for say Mermaid and Muppets also very early. Scan your magic band at those and then leave without attending. Then when queuing for rides keep modifying app constantly to see what pops up. Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania usually pop up doing this and we’ve also had success with Slinky Dog. Once you have used the three you can book another T1, as soon as you scan your band for that rides you can book another T1 and so on.

I don't fully understand your plan. You have said you will go to GE to do those two rides but then also that you would go to ToT and RnR coaster as everyone else will go to GE. Isn't that what you will be doing? it sounds like you could be doing exactly the same as everyone else.

I wouldn't book the first Tier 1 fast pass for the afternoon, I would do it mid to late morning. You also need to make sure you use up your Tier 2 fast passes.

My idea is, if we can get to the front of the crowd at rope drop, we can get ahead of the game at GE. I’m assuming everyone will be heading there or Toy story and then will alternate during the morning. If we do 1 land in the morning, then hopefully by the time we head to RnR and ToT, people will still be floating between the two (GE & TS) new lands. So then it’s only 1 land to negotiate longer queues and we’ll use our FP there. We’ll still make tier 2 reservations but that won’t impact the main rides we want to do.

Tbh, everytime we’ve been before we’ve done everything by 2pm. But it was 4 years ago and TS and GE weren’t open.

Sounds good - I wouldn’t FP TSM when I was there a few weeks ago I could easily get multiple ones for this on the day. We rode 5/6 times on the trot using FP they came up every time in the queue for the next 15 mins or so I even used the same time FP twice as after I had tapped in a little early it was still there.

The unknown factor in this is how long it will take to ride both Galaxy's Edge attractions in standby.

Until Rise of the Resistance has been open for a while I wouldn't like to guess when you'll be moving onto ToT or RnR. The time you arrive here will have a big impact on how long you wait in standby and may not be a good use of time. I'd wait to read a few reviews on the fully open Galaxy's Edge before deciding on a detailed touring plan.

Regardless though I'd agree with booking your Tier 1 FP for mid morning and use/let expire the Tier 2 earlier

I suppose I thought that would happen regardless of whether it was EMH or not and that during EMH as only onsite people would be present the lines would be comparatively shorter?
