Dentistry - Value
I’ve been today for my annual check up and scale and polish, no NHS dentist places available when we moved here so cost was £45.
Anyway it’s got me thinking, £45 annually (provided no fillings etc)isn’t really that much in the grand scheme of things, but I admit to complaining about the cost, but I happily pay a lot more annually to get my hair cut! My teeth are really a lot more important aren’t they? maybe I’ve got my priorities wrong! |

I do agree if you need no treatment. I am holding out until after Christmas because I was quoted £650 for one crown. I look after my teeth, always have check ups but I think I am just unlucky with them. I seem to need something major nearly every year !

I think £45 for that service is good value.

I agree with you. I regularly have a chat with my GP and I keep saying the NHS cannot be all things to all people.
We are in Denplan and pay circa £82 a month for my Wife and I plus our Son albeit he then pays me (family discount) That gives us 2 check ups per annum. 4 hygienist visits and all dental costs but not lab fees We are high risk due to large number of crowns and bridges. I can live with that cost and think the value is ok

Denplan is one of the best insurance policies i have ever bought. Repays itself times over.

Do you not go twice a year?
Thankfully we are lucky enough to have a wonderful nhs dentist. Twice a year £22 something per visit for tier 1. Tier 2, so a filling etc is £62 something. You’re right though £45 is pretty good. |

I’ve just had a check up and clean with the hygienist. Cost £62 odd. Thought that was the basic cost

I used to complain about the cost of dental treatment and dh used to always say to me but you pay £50 for a haircut, he used to get really annoyed about it. We have been on Denplan for several years now and now that I’ve started to need crowns it is starting to be good value as I’m about to have my third crown (same tooth) put in.
