What Happens in Vegas...Day 6 - Hash House, Stratosphere & Fremont.

Index

Previous Day

Sunday 5th June 2016

We were both up at 8:30am, we got up and ready straight away and were out of the room by about 9:15am.

The plan for the day was to head to the Stratosphere and Fremont street, I was eager to do the rides on top of the Stratosphere but Amy was adamant she wasn’t going on them, I was hoping I would be able to persuade her.

First we wanted to go over to the Linq Promenade, to have a look around the shops. It was really hot today and we were both really hungry so on the walk over to the Linq, we decided to go to Hash House a Go Go for some food first.

When we arrived it was about 10:00am, the queue was really big and there were a lot of people in front of us, however we noticed that most of these were parties of 5 or more, so when we got to the counter the lady told us there would only be a 15-20 minute wait for a table of two. We were happy to wait and found a little seat to wait on.

About 25 minutes later we were eventually called to our table, for drinks I ordered chocolate milk and water and Amy had a peach iced tea.

Amy had looked at the menu before we got to Vegas and already decided she wanted the meatloaf “Griddled HH meatloaf & 2 eggs served with mashed potatoes, fruit & biscuit”, I couldn’t make up my mind but I ended up choosing from the farm benedict’s all of these are served on a fresh biscuit with mashed potatoes, I chose “Andy's sage fried chicken w/ fresh spinach, hardwood smoked bacon, market tomato, griddled mozzarella, chipotle cream and scrambled eggs”.

Stupidly as we were waiting for our food we decided to order a side of sweet potato fries to share, the reason I say stupidly is because for anyone who knows Hash House, their portions are HUGE and when our food arrived we quickly realised we didn’t need the sweet potato fries, I think I ate maybe one or two.

This was honestly the biggest meal I have ever eaten in my life, it was so good but there was no way either of us were going to finish them. I made a very good attempt but there was still a normal sized/ 2 small meals worth of food left on my plate. Amy’s choice was definitely the winner here, there were so many flavour combinations on the plate we loved it! Mine was still very good, but hers was better.

When the bill came we paid around $23 each + tax.

We were so full after this we slowly wondered around the promenade shops, we had a look in Sprinkles Cupcakes, but were way too full to purchase anything. I looked in the souvenir/ gift shop and found a present for my dad. He is a mechanic and I saw a licence plate with No1 DAD written on it, I had to buy him it for a jokey gift.

It was now almost 12pm, so we quickly went back over to our hotel to drop off the bits we bought in the souvenir shop and then headed to the Stratosphere.

Our Uber dropped us off at around 1pm, firstly we sat in the bar at the entrance of the Stratosphere and had a quiet drink, we both had a vodka cranberry and I think the total was $12.We then went upstairs and wondered round the shops before making our way to the entrance of the tower.

We got speaking to two American guys; they were both riding the x-scream ride; this was the ride I wanted to do. We spent about 15-20 minutes trying to convince Amy to do the ride with us but she was certain that she wasn’t doing it. I paid $25 for the observation deck and the ride and Amy paid $20 for just the observation deck.

We looked round the observation deck and took a few pictures before making our way to the ride, it was really windy today and it was making me quite nervous as we stood outside waiting to get in our seats, as Amy wasn’t going on the ride one of the guys we were with offered to sit next to me so that I didn’t have to go on alone. They also had a camera with them and they asked Amy to take a picture of us from the side of the observation deck.

They sent me one of the pictures, you can’t see me but I am sat in the second row on the right hand side.

The ride was actually really good, any fear I had before going on quickly went once the ride had started.

When we came off the ride, we all decided to go to Fremont St. together. We got an Uber there and on the way we were driving past the Pawn Shop, I asked if we could stop so I could go in and get a couple of pictures, my dad and uncle are fans of the TV show.

We had a little look at what was offer in the shop, they had some nice watches but nothing that we were interested in, so decided to go back to the Uber.

We arrived at Fremont Street just before 4pm, originally we wanted to go on SlotZilla but when we arrived the queue was pretty big and the next available slot was in 2 hours, but there was a further hour queue from there. So unfortunately we weren’t able to ride as neither of us wanted to wait over 3 hours.

We went to the D bar and ordered some drinks, I ordered the long island iced tea slushy, this was $17 in the souvenir glass, it was really good, but SO strong. Amy chose the orange flavour vodka slushy, she wasn’t very keen on this and said it was too sickly.

After we had looked round and listened to some of the live music playing we decided to go back to Caesars, the guys we had made friends with were heading home, they live in St Louis Missouri so they needed to get to the airport for their flight.

We said our goodbyes and then were on our way, me and Amy made it back to the room at around 7pm. We were both feeling really tired this evening and didn’t fancy doing too much, we had a chill out for a couple of hours in the room and then went down the casino area and wondered around the Forum Shops.

At about 10pm we were both feeling a bit peckish, but we didn’t fancy eating a full meal so decided to go to the Cheesecake factory for some cheesecake. We were a little bit cheeky and asked if the waiter would bring us some of the lovely bread they give you before your meal, she was happy to do so and we ate our way through this whilst waiting for our cakes.

I ordered the same as what Amy had last time, The Adams Peanut Butter cup fudge ripple cheesecake, Amy went for the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake. We paid $14 in total + tip.

Once we had paid the bill, we made our way back to the room and were in bed asleep by 11:45pm. I think having a few late nights in a row had finally caught up with us.

Next: Day 7 - Bacchanal Buffet & Johnny Rockets.

Oh you are so brave doing that ride on top of the Strasphere... my knees turn to jelly just looking at a photo of it! I would have totally been with Amy and watching from the side!

Another great day, thanks for sharing!

Loving your report You used Uber a lot, we plan to next month. I used them in Orlando last year and it was fine. I read on another forum that the uber drivers in Vegas rang you all the time to find out your location. Did you experience this. As we won't have a US number,I'm slightly concerned,we'll be using 3 at home sims. Thanks

I was pretty scared stood up there waiting to get on the ride, but I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie haha, I did a skydive in the past, so anything compared to that is easy now.

Thanks for reading

We used Uber for the majority of our trip, I think we got a taxi 3/4 times. Uber are now also allowed to drive to the Vegas airport!

Weirdly yes they did call us all the time, they would ring us to find exactly where we were, we didn't have a US number either, we linked our Uber to Amy's phone as like you she had 3 at home, this didn't cause any issues.

Ooh you were brave riding that one!" We did the Big Shot last year but plan to tackle the others this time round.

Hash House meals look amazing as usual, their portions really are extreme though aren't they?

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, the build up whilst waiting for the ride was more scary lol! You should definitely do them this time round, so much fun!

The portions are so big! But the food tastes amazing. My boyfriend has a bet with me that he will be able to finish a main meal and a pudding to himself when we go in Orlando. I can't wait until he realises the portions are much bigger than they appear in the photos .
