Advice for going to a concert at The Beacham

Hoping that you all can help me out with something please.

Andrew McMcMahon is playing at The Beacham while we are in Florida, and I've bought balcony tickets. I thought that would be better then being on the floor in the hope we will be able to see the stage!

I've always wanted to go to a concert in the US, and its never worked out with dates before so I'm excited to finally get to see someone play there!

Has anyone ever been there before? Could you tell me what its like?

Also need to work out the best way to get there from Disney, we will have a car but was wondering about a taxi, I know we could get one that will take us there easy enough, but how could I guarantee they'll be there when we come out again as I'm not sure what time the concert will finish.

DLP: 98,99,02,05,09,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17 and hopefully 21!
And going again - just don't know when!

not been to a gig at the beacham, but have been to the social next door...

if you end up driving, theres loads of multi storey car parks nearby (its just down the road from the amway center)

as for a taxi there were loads of them around after the gig we went to - the whole street is bars, clubs and restaurants, i dont think youll have any difficulty finding one to take you home. but bear in mind its quite a distance (about twice as far as universal from where you are) so will probably cost upwards of $50 each way in a cab, the mears taxi estimator will give you an idea of how much: mearstransportation/t...are-estimator/

Thanks for the info, I used the calculator and it came to $47 for the cab fare one way! So you're right in it being very expensive think we will be better off driving as hopefully it will be safe to park. I'm also pretty confident that we will be safe there. I've been through London late at night on my own and was perfectly fine. Mainly because I was vey aware of my surroundings.

Really hope that going to see a band in the US will live up to what I imagine it to be like.

i was *very* drunk when i came out of the gig and at no point did i not feel safe - there were loads of police on the street just making sure nothing happened (the area was full of people going to clubs/etc)

we parked here. literally round the corner from the venue:

google/maps/place/...c61 a8e?hl=en

if you drive past the social/beacham on your right hand side, take the first right after it, the multistorey is just on the left there. cost us less than $10 for the night (but theres loads of other places to park nearby)

We try to go to at least one gig per trip (preferably at scuzzy local venues instead of places like hard rock live) - the social is my second favourite venue ive been to over there so far - my favourite being the culture room in ft lauderdale...

Thanks for the advice on somewhere to park, that place looks ideal in terms of being close.

I wouldn't think twice about going somewhere here, I've frequented some very questionable clubs in the pursuit of seeing a good band play, and not always been sober! Think just because it something different outside the 'tourist' comfort zone.

Andrew McMahon doesn't tour often in the UK, in fact I've been a fan since his previous bands and since 2003 I've only since him play 3 times and I've never missed a tour!

there seems to be a bit of a dry spell while we're there this year - belle and sebastian and/or charli xcx are playing the week before we get there which i'm a little bit gutted about...

theres lykke li and/or chvrches at house of blues, which is something at least, but usually theres stuff on at several venues i want to go to

in the past we've seen electric 6, weird al yankovic, mates of state, amy grant and a few others as well as aborted attempts to see ween, the b-52's and r kelly

if id've stayed in the "tourist comfort zone" i probably would have stopped going to orlando years ago

Sounds like you've been lucky to get to see a few different people play. I don't know how I've managed to go to Orlando a fair few times and never reach a gig.

Going to a local venue does seem like it would be better than somewhere like an arena they're all a variation on a theme anyway I can do that at home.

Came close to catching jimmy eat world but it didn't work out. Didn't think they'd be to the parents taste and I'd already seen them 3 times on that tour over here
