Is anyone else finding it annoying with the amount of adverts that are in videos on YouTube lately? I watched one earlier and there were three sets of adverts in the first four minutes which I couldn't skip

Yes - I don’t watch a huge amount but I notice you can’t skip the adverts more often now. Pinterest has also really gone downhill recently - it’s more adverts than anything else now. I really gone off it.

Each creator chooses their own ad placement, so any ire should be directed at them rather than the platform.

Some creators do seem to find it difficult to resist All. The. Ads.

As above, the person creating the content and posting on YouTube is the one who chooses the ads and where they place them. The more ads they use the more money they make, it’s how some people make a living nowadays, YouTube videos. Like Tim Tracker for example, he’s a full time YouTuber.

I've noticed this too, one particular couple seem to have put in ads every 5 minutes. Though they are keen on making boring vlogs ( I sadly watch to rant ) and make no secret that they want to earn money from vlogging

YouTube recently changed their policy on use of mid-rolls which also included a sneaky push to add them to all videos on your channel unless you opted out via slightly convoluted methods. a lot of channels were caught on the back foot. My understanding is that the only way they can now be removed is individually per video...

YouTube uses one of their fantastic algorithms to decide where to place ads if the creator decides not to do it manually. I saw an example that placed 20 individual ad breaks over a 55 minutes video.
