I really do hope all turns out well and you can make your Cali trip next year, CFB!
Well, Aims.. you never let me down in San Diego, so I can only accept your advice!

cfb

If you're interested in a nice stop between San Simeon and Pismo there's a nice beach place called Cayucos.

We stopped there randomly and I've got to recommend a couple of places. One is Duckie's that do excellent Clam Chowder in a bread bowl. The other is a bakery the Brown Butter Cookie Company. I recommend the lemon ones.

Making me feel a tad peckish.
I will take your advice on that one as on that day, we simply intend seeing Hearst Castle, then moving on. Cookies sound good!

Is the swimming safe?

We never went in the water there so not sure, but all looked OK.

We swam in the Pacific in Manhattan L.A. in August. It was surprisingly warm.

I'm adding Old West to my August PCH drive - thanks for the tip.
