Julian Apple festival
Our planned drive to Las Vegas from San Diego coincides with the apple festival in Julian, which would mean about a 80 mile detour up into the mountains NE of San Diego before continuing on our journey. Anyone been, and is it worth the extra time?

I've gone up to Julian for the apple festival a few times over the years. Julian is a quaint little mountain town, and they've made a name for themselves for their apple pies that are sold all over the town during the apple harvest months. There really isn't a lot to see in town though, there's a lot of antique stores and country goods...but the festival is very popular with San Diego locals and that weekend sees Julian filled with visitors. Parking can be hard to find if you don't get there early and the two-lane highway going up into Julian gets backed up with traffic as the day goes on. Honestly, unless you had a full free day to devote to making the drive to Julian, the festival itself isn't worth making a big detour for. You won't miss much if you don't go.

Thank you Aims. We may stick to Plan A, setting off from SD a little later to drive to Las Vegas with a stop off at Calico to break the journey.

Calico is fun, I would much rather stop there if I were you. I think you'll get more out of it.
