Used the $20 tip trick in Vegas (2009). We actually slipped $60 to the desk clerk as we were after 3 rooms. Cough, 'don't suppose you have any complementary upgrades available'

Ended up with Strip Views at Treasure Island.

I've joined the Alamo Insiders and coincidentally got an email today offering free upgrades. Although this only looks to be Compact to midsize cars.

Free Single Upgrade + Insiders 5% Discount
In addition to your Insiders 5% discount, receive a free car class upgrade on your rental in the United States or Canada. Available on Compact through Midsize cars. Offer valid for rentals reserved and picked up by April 30, 2015 for travel through May 14, 2015.

I think I would be too worries that they were going to charge us for the upgrade. Especially this time as we have chosen to pay on arrival. If we do savetime, go straight to the garage and manage to get ourselves a bigger car than we booked surely they are going to charge us more when we pay?

I think it only works if you book you car on the us website which is far more expensive than alamo brits or alamo.co.uk.

you dont need to show any money, if your polite enough and speak to the garage lads/women they will give you an upgrade then you can tip them for providing good service by bringing you such a lovely car..no rules broken no bribery they simply give you a nice car for being nice and pleasant

Hi
I belong to Alamo insiders and because of this I have got an upgrade from a full size to a premium but the next time I ordered an SUV they said the upgrade scheme doesn't work for SUVs

If the car has been ordered through Thomsons do you think the upgrad might still work with an Insiders card?

It is actually not bribery to walk around with $20 in hand. If an employee wants to guide you to an aisle which may be a slightly better standard than what you have paid for and you tip him for the assistance then that is not bribery, merely a customary Florida thankyou for a good bit of service.
I doubt if Alamo agree with you I have emailed them to ask I will let you know their reply Thank You for your comments

I doubt that the regular employees at Alamo care what Alamo think, remember they will be on minimum wage which in the US is pennies...a nice tip doesn't go a miss with them...also remember you are in Florida, the land of customer service!

PS Do you work for Alamo as it seems you are going to extrodinary lengths here?
