Always cheaper from the UK or in an emergency get onto a UK website whilst in America to do the booking. They will skin you alive if you just rock up to their depot!

Isn't it also true Tom that they will skin you alive twice-over when they start piling on all the insurances? I think that as most walk-ups may be USA citizen their personal insurance will cover all that's required for a hire car?

Mick. Agreed. I do sometimes wonder if the coverage the Americans use via their credit cards is good enough. Obviously their own personal car insurance will be fine. No such thing as a free lunch!

I read one artical on the inter web that us chap hired a car and used his credit card to cover CDW. Unfortunately he had an accident where he was at fault and wrote off someone else's car as well as his rental. His credit card covered the rental but he was on the hook for around $25000 as he God not have an personal auto policy (which normally covers us renters the third party cover) and he declined the Suplimentary liability insurance! He did not realise the credit card did not cover damage tom other vehicles. An expensive lesson!
