AMI After a 15 Night Layover-USA Pre-Travel Day 1st September 2021
Fast-forward 2 weeks from our arrival in Jamaica and it was sadly time for the family to fly back to the U.K. It was a day of mixed emotions as we were certainly sad to see them going home. We’d all had such a great time together-2 weeks without a cross word and 4 grandchildren from 3 different families who get on fantastically well. It was the stuff of dreams.
On the flip side, we knew that tomorrow was the day we would finally return to our other ‘home’ (providing we were allowed into the US) and this was an exciting and somewhat emotional prospect. As we were waiting to wave them goodbye, a torrential rain shower started, the likes of which you might see when the rain in Florida is at its worst! The hotel had just taken delivery that week of all new outdoor furniture and they were desperately trying to move the upholstered sofas under cover. The weather kind of summed up our sadness at seeing them leave. After lots of hugs and kisses, we watched the guys get on the airport shuttle bus and then hurried up to our room to begin packing! We had an early start tomorrow and although we believed we had dotted every ‘I’ and crossed every ‘t’, I wanted to be sure! I am usually a pretty laid-back traveller and was hoping that getting into the USA would be straightforward. The two of us went to the hotel restaurant for our evening meal and instead of asking for our usual ‘table for 10’ we had a small ‘table for 2’ and rather than having the hustle and bustle of 4 little ones at the table, together with family jokes and laughter, the two of us sat there feeling a bit sorry for ourselves, half expecting the little ones to come running through the door. However, we didn’t have time for melancholy, as tomorrow we were going to our favourite place in the world! We ate our meals, declined dessert (unusual!) and I made a mental note that the next few days would have to include some healthier eating*, after 2 weeks of all-inclusive indulgence. *maybe 😀 My ‘manyana’ attitude meant that we left some of the packing until the morning, so we went to bed with the spare bed (previously occupied until that morning by one of our granddaughters )taken up by various piles of clothes, toiletries and holiday paraphernalia. The alarm was set for 5.45am (we had a plane to catch, dontcha know!). Documentation was checked and we’d decided to leave check in and form-filling to confirm our negative Covid tests until we were at the airport as we’d read some reports of ESTA’s being cancelled when done at 14, rather than 15 days out of the U.K. I was slightly nervous about this, but kept everything crossed that there would be helpful people at the airport should we encounter any issues. Coming soon. Travel Day. Edited at 02:12 PM. |

Thanks for the lovely comments. I just hope it’s not too boring! No theme parks, no children and a pretty relaxed holiday. I will try to take some nice pictures though!
