Meals over the festive period
So I'm looking at my supermarket shop...
I'm off the week before Christmas but working in between Christmas and NYE. What does everyone eat around the the festive period? We can't do food delivery as no one delivers to us so I'm think some nice, easy cook meals that are different and also meal to make when I have some more time. I do enjoy cooking. I have my family coming one eve in the run up to Christmas, we have a big Christmas party, Christmas eve and then the family meal Christmas day... we traditionally have bubble and squeak one day after and a big salad one eve full off nice cheese and ham but other than that I'm stumped! |

We have turkey, ham and leek pie. Jamie Oliver's recipe... ish... I always put some ready rolled sheets of pastry in the freezer. Also handy for brie and cranberry parcels, and sausagemeat stuffing rolls.
And always make too much mash... fried mash goes with any leftovers. |

I tend to make a lasagne or spaghetti bolognese on Christmas Eve, although I know a lot of people like a takeaway that evening.
Turkey and trimmings Christmas Day and turkey, ham and chips on Boxing Day. Other than that, we vary it with a combination of simple meals like stir fries (good way to use turkey up) and salads or buffets or make something different as a change from the usual Christmas fare. Some vegetarian options can be good, I make a cheese and leek pie, or a bean and lentil bake. Other options could be a curry (again using the turkey), slow cooker chicken casserole and cheese dumplings or a fish pie, salmon en croute or maybe a goulash or a chilli to warm everyone up. |

The day my Husband finishes work for Xmas (usually 22nd/23rd) we always have hog roast baps. I cook a joint of pork in the slow cooker all day and we have it with stuffing and some premade salad sides. I use a slow cooker liner aswell to save on the washing up

We also have a turkey ham and leek pie, have a few different stir fries, pulled pork and maybe some pasta dishes.
