Whale Watching

Has anyone done a whale watching tour, we've just booked one with Captain Nick. Has anyone used him, if so was it as good as what I'm reading on Trip Advisor ?

We went with Sanctuary Cruises in Moss Landing.

In Monteray there are several boat cruises to pick from and all start at the Pier which is very nice.

I have used (twice) Channel Island Wale Watching from near Oxnard - I heard the Wales like swim between the Channel Islands with their calfs there and bingo they do indeed . Sea can get a bit rough tho ...

Sanctuary cruises is one that doesn�t, it goes from moss landing Slightly north which gets it to the main whale watching area a bit quicker
Off course still to the same area.
One of the best things we have ever done. The one thing we haven�t seen is a pod of orcas

Plenty to choose from out of Moss Landing and last time with us, Monterey.

I had a long chat on board and was informed that all of the skippers are in radio contact with each other and sharing information in order that all on board get a good experience and go back home talking about it.

This actually makes perfect sense as I would doubt that too many punters return repeatedly.

I would guess that it is more a question of preference of boat, big, small, catamaran.. whether you have good sea legs and therefore won�t get seasick.

We went with Monterey Whale watch and saw 20 Humpbacks, 2 Greys, 200 Rossi�s, 2 Albatross, (plus several sea otters and hundreds of Sealion as we left the wharf). I would certainly recommend them as the boat was big, had good seakeeping and a very informative Oceanographer.. a great day!

On our last trip half those on board had been before and some were locals who go out regularly. The marine biologist on board was a great source of knowledge yet given in a very relaxed way and tailored for all age groups and level of understanding. This was with sanctuary cruises

Mine was an Easter hols and we were pretty much all family, tourist groups. Great stuff! We were called onto the greys by one of the other boats.
