3 week road trip - West Coast

Just put the finishing touches to our 3 week road trip to the West Coast in June. Only the car and overnight at Heathrow to sort out at a later date.

As usual just myself and Mrs T.

Flying with Virgin from Heathrow Terminal 3

What we will be doing is as follows:

Fly Heathrow to San Francisco. Drive to Monterrey for 2 nights at the Wave Inn which is a block from Cannery Row. From Monterrey we drive to Solvang for an overnight at the Kronburg.

From Solvang we are driving to Las Vegas for a couple of nights at the Carriage House which is situated just off the strip - used them before and excellent value.

Next is a drive to Williams in Arizona and 2 nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. Here will be take a train to the Grand Canyon for the day. It is a wonderful experience and a must if you are visiting the area. Plus it is really good fun!

On we go to Palm Springs and a couple of nights at the Best Western Las Brias. Stayed before and a nice hotel that does a good breakfast. A visit to Joshua Tree National Park will be a must while here.

Next is a drive to San Diego and 5 nights at the Best Western Island Palms Shelter Island. Situated across the bay from Coronado Air base so great viewing of aircraft coming and going.

Next stop is Anaheim and 3 nights at the Tropiciana Inn and Suites which is situated right opposite the entrance to Disney. Great location. 2 day ticket for Disney will be purchased.

Finally we finish up with a couple of nights in Cambria, staying at the Rigdon. Love Cambria!

From Cambria we drive to San Francisco airport for our overnight flight back to Heathrow.

Total mileage is just under 2,000 so far but that will obviously increase with various excursions - especially while in San Diego.

Worked out that just driving between the various locations will be 2,000 miles. Hoping to top the 2,500 we did in September when we did a 3 weeks trip to the east coast and up to Niagara Falls.

Absolutely love the West Coast and so looking forward to visiting again.

Hello

I am feeling a little jealous of your trip, sounds fantastic!

We did west coast a couple of years ago but only LA, Disney and San Diego and it was amazing

I really want to do Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree

I hope you have an amazing time

Sounds like a great trip planned, looking forward to hearing about it. We are also starting in San Francisco this summer then heading down to Monterey for 3 nights, we literally cannot wait!
My partner and I were in Vegas just last week and drove to the Grand Canyon for the night. If you fancy a stop for lunch I can highly recommend the Roadkill Café in Seligman for food. Really authentic Route 66 town with model cars from the Pixar film 'Cars'

Sounds like a great trip. We tend to turn north of San Francisco and head into Mendocino and the Pacific coast. A gorgeous part of California with great wine ! Have a great trip.

Sounds like it will be a great trip!

Having visited a couple of years ago, I’ll be reading your report for ideas for a future trip, as there are a few places you’ve included that we’d like to visit too.
