Gated or non gated?

My main advice would be don’t let the gates give a false sense of security. Take the same security precautions (alarm on, windows and doors locked) with a villa in a gated community as you would in a non-gated.

Occasionally with our villa trips the patio doors have been missing the removable brace that is part of the security. Where that is the case I tend to find something around the villa to do the job.

If staying offsite I do always stay in gated communities as I do feel safer, especially now I have a small child. I've never had to punch in a code as they are always manned by a guard. Although some can be more blasé than others and just wave you through without properly checking.

We have stayed in both, it makes no odds to us.

It is however frustrating when the pin code changes and no one informs you.
