Ontario And Quebec 2017: Day 9 - Baird's Trail and More Rafting

Another later wake up - well 7am! That is good for us!

I made American style pancakes that we had with some local maple syrup that the owners had left us. Very yummy!

Then we drove to Baird's Trail - a hike in the forest on three loops.

The hike was mainly through pine forests with some boardwalks over the marshlands.

It was very quiet - we saw nobody until we were coming back to the car. For some reason, it was very hot in the forest.

There was quite a lot of small wildlife - lots of insects including the dreaded mosquitos. The latter did buzz around us but must have either been male (so didn't bite) or all the anti-mosquito cream was working!

Not sure what this was - a worm type thing

And the silk worm on the rim of my cap startled me at first

And this must win the ugliest frog/toad contest (what is the difference between the two - I should goggle it... )

This must be a toad - all down to the skin texture! Frogs generally have smooth skin whilst toads have warts!

It was an enjoyable walk - just a bit too warm!

After a visit to a chocolate shop where fudge was acquired, we went back to the cabin.

I made felafel wraps with veggies and sour cream which went down well. This was followed by the apple pie I bought yesterday!

For some reason we were all a bit tired so had naps/tablet time for a couple of hours!

Then it was back to the rapid run! I was the taxi driver again!

The sky started getting ominous on the third run! Just as we got back, the thunder started as did the rain!

Thankfully we have the outside screened porch to store everything and to put the wet towels!

Once things had settled, J went out in the canoe!

After a snacky tea, we headed to Dairy Queen in Perth! This is a mini blizzard - more than filling!

J had the banana split option which he shared with O!

The calorie count menu is somewhat off putting though! Everything is at least 300 calories and some sizes almost use up your daily allowance!

We head back to the cabin and get ready for bed! It is tiring all this fresh air
