I understand the concept of betting for and against an outcome and I'm good with figures, but I'm getting frustrated with myself at not being able to get my head around it.

Any beginners advice would be very gratefully received, thank you.
Have a look at some of the matchbetting sites. I use Team profit, they do video guides for beginners . I watched all the guides 5 times over before I started over 2 years ago, but it was still confusing for a while. Team profit also have a Facebook forum where you can ask any questions and get a prompt and usually friendly reply.

Question

So I'm a week in! I've had good and bad experiences and need a little help with a few things please.

I have read the starters thread on here and half of the pages on this thread, I have joined Team Profit site and have found the videos really useful, the rookie error I made was to use the same amount of £ for the lay bets for the first 3 free bets, totally forgetting about the purpose of the calculator! But I have made £30 in my first week, a drop in the ocean for you all, but it's a brand new thing for me 😊

I have a few questions please so I would be very grateful for any help:

* i've found Oddsmonkey to help me with the first free bets, but are there other sites you would recommend to help me find close odds as they only offer a few comparisons
* I've seen Team Casino mentioned a lot on here, is this also a 'no risk' option or is it traditional betting?
* I placed a bet on a horse, but when the race had finished it showed a large RF next to it's name, what does that mean?
* I've seen a 'boost' option pop up when I've selected a bet, what does this mean, it sounds positive to me but I don't want to risk any money if not.
* There are so many acronyms, please can you tell me what these mean - Acca, 2up, PP, Dutch, WH, EP, BOD.

I really do appreciate any help you can give me. I've started this to help DD through her Masters course, so every £ will help and I can't afford to risk anything.

I've largely stopped now but will answer a few of your Qs. Not sure about other sites. I was using YesBets which was brilliant, but they have just closed.

Team Casino I believe is about low/medium risk Casino but others will be along to answer that better. I've steered clear of that so far

RF is Rule Four. This means one or more horses retired from the race before the start, and that caused odds adjustments on the remaining ones - they will drop. This will happen on both the bookie and the exchange and it usually evens out to leave your overall position about the same.

Boosted odds will I guess depend on the context a bit, but sometimes bookies will offer an odds boost, for example taking it from 3.2 to 3.4 as a special offer price, or they might have an odds boost of a percentage, say a 50% rise in the odds. In this case, you should be able to adjust the odds in the calculator to take this into account. If the boost is high enough, you might be able to make it into an "arb", where the bookie price is higher than the exchange price, meaning you will make a profit on that outcome regardless.

Acca - Accumulator. A bet comprising of multiple bets, all of which much win for the overall bet to win. These are more difficult to lay but sometimes for football the exchanges will have lay markets for them which make it easier. Avoid for now until you have more experience if unsure.

2Up - An offer run by a few bookies (Bet365/PaddyPower and I think now Mansionbet and possibly others). This offer means if the team you backed goes 2 goals up, your bet is immediately paid out as a winner. This means you are guaranteed that side of the bet and are then able to try and trade out of your exchange side for profit. Or, leave it to run, and if the team goes onto not win, you would also win the exchange side of the bet. Again, would not get into this just yet.

PP - PaddyPower

WH - William Hill

Dutch - Covering all outcomes in a way that guarantees profit no matter what happens. Definitely do not try this yet!

EP - Extra Place. Sometimes bookies will pay out extra places on an "Each Way" bet. Normally they pay out if the horse finishes in the first 3 places, as do the exchange. But if the bookie has an offer to pay 4 or 5 places then you have the opportunity to profit if you back a horse that comes in in that 4th or 5th place, as it would win at the bookie and at the exchange.

BOG - Best Odds Guaranteed, aka free extra money. If you back a horse at say 4.0 and it goes off at 6.0 instead and then wins, then the bookie pays out at the 6.0 odds which means you make some extra money for nothing. Extremely satisfying when it happens!

I only use oddsmonkey. They'll have the same selections as anyone else, you may be able to filter the results shown , I pay an annual subscription, I don't remember what the free version gives you. Try to choose well known teams or big football matches, even if it means taking a bigger qualifying loss. If you bet on the Senegal second division because it's at the top of the oddsmatcher you'll get yourself noticed by the bookie.

I use Team casino . I'm gubbed by so many bookies that 95% of my profit is from casino rather than mbetting. Unlike mbetting most casino is not risk free. I would ignore it until you have built your bank to at least £500( you'll get there in no time ) then maybe look at the no risk and low risk offers. Team casino do a free trial, but wait until you can afford to use it.

Thank you both very much for your helpful replies.

I just checked on the results of a horse race today, on Ladbrooks is says the best is void as the horse didn't run, would the lay on Betfair also just drop off?

Yes if a horse doesn't run it will be void on both sides the bookies and the exchange. If it was a qualifier choose another bet if it was a free bet they are normally returned to you account.

I started a couple of weeks ago and was about £70 up but no free bets after the first week. I'm only signed up to 3 sites, should I just keep signing up for more?

Just keep signing up, you will start to get offers such as bet £x on A and if it loses/wins then get a £y free bet.
