Sorry, but this does not convince me that it is acceptable to share plates and bowls with pets.

I do appreciate that it’s difficult to avoid other people’s germs when going about our daily life but in our own home the choice is ours, I think that’s the difference here.

Our cats and dog don’t, mainly as we didn’t want to encourage them to eat from places other than their own bowls...the dog won’t even eat from the cat bowls and vice Versa!
Now I wouldn’t do it as DS is immunosuppressed, he has to be very careful with animals and not let them lick his face, not clean up after them and they have to be vaccinated. Cats in particular have filthy mouths so dishwasher or not it wouldn’t feel right.

I would not share a plate or utensil that the dogs have licked, but I am really baffled by those that would still be horrified at using a plate or utensil once it has been through the dishwasher! It is clean, it has just been washed for heavens sake.

The dogs often lick plates clean in this house, if we deem the food to have been dog friendly. The cat has no interest in human food and does not lick plates.

Nothing has ever happened to us as a result of our dogs licking plates.

I have never seen my dogs licking their bum, or any other part of their body for that matter.

Yes. But then the plate is washed? . Nobody is suggesting that they eat off a freshly cat /dog licked plate.

I'm in the disgusting camp.

It's not hard to scrape leftovers into the animals bowl.

Animals bowls are for animals, human plates/bowls are for humans.

Spin it around, who except under the worst of exceptions (earthquake/war) would choose to use your pets bowl to eat from, clean or not?

If yes - why?

Ridiculous and slightly insulting question!

No of course I would not eat from the pets’ bowls. But it would have nothing to do with cleanliness.

That is actually a very good point! I doubt anyone on here would actually eat out of a pet bowl even though they let pets eat off their plates!

I don't think it's right. Wouldn't necessarily say disgusting but just not right!
My FIL often licks plates or licks his finger and runs it round the plate which I don't like! He's on another level sometimes though and I'm sure he does things to get a reaction (he loves a good argument!). My SIL said they were there for tea once and for dessert MIL had put various bits on the table including the ice cream tub. Once everyone had got what they wanted, he kicked his spoon and smoothed the tub ice cream back out!

With pets and plates, I suppose I believe it's just not the done thing , there is the bit about dogs licking their rear ends quite a lot I suppose!
Im another one who doesn't kiss my dog or let it l8ck my face!

If I have toast with lots of butter or crumpets then the cat will try and get to the plate to lick it if it’s next to me on the sofa when I’ve finished.

The plate then goes straight in the dishwasher.

She does try and pinch food off my plate if we have stuff like cooked chicken but she’s firmly told no!

Your FIL is absolutely disgusting. I would not eat at the same table as him ever again. Humans should not be licking plates! Not even remotely comparable to a dog licking a plate and then plate going through dishwasher before anyone uses it.
