Anyone know about Disney image copyright? UPDATE 17/6/19

If I wanted to use a Disney image somewhere (non commercial) is there a way to get permission or is it a straight no-no, does anyone know?

From what I have seen, Disney are fairly relaxed about the use of their images unless it is being used for commercial purposes (which you say you're not).

I did actually find a permission email for using their intellectual property, can’t hurt to gain permission if possible

I guess it depends what it’s for, lots of people get Disney characters printed on to their own t-shirts and nobody questions it

I’m sure if it’s for personal use you are ok , say using Disney fabric for a dress or mickey on your kids homemade autograph book but if you are using it for business purposes then it’s a no .

here is a link to the photopass license which includes some stock images. If using any other images then you need to contact the image owner as it maybe a disney image but is owned by someone else.

Disney will not allow people to make money from Disney “stuff”. So if I were to download an image, for example, and then pay a printer to print it, that would not be acceptable.

So Disney said no!

Our entertainment properties, trademarks, logos, characters, artwork, images and names, are protected by intellectual property laws, and we must limit their permitted use to products and services which our company creates or distributes, or activities, projects and services which have a direct relationship with our company. Unfortunately, your proposed use does not fall within these parameters."

This request was to paint the Up! house on the side of our boat in memory of my parents (our Carl & Ellie!), no commercial use, we don't rent it out.

Gutted they've declined it, we'll have to find another image that isn't theirs.

to be fair, after looking at some of the horrendous attempts at other peoples artwork on the back of ice cream vans and the like, i'm not surprised they said no

if it were me though, id've just done it, and been prepared to paint over it when (if) their lawyers call

I’d still do it but just modify it a bit .
