Mobile Iceland - 2 or 3 nights

Hi Dibbers,

Thinking about booking a surprise trip for my husband for Jan (2020) and can’t decide whether to do 2 or 3 nights in Reykjavik. We’d want to fit in the typical tourist hot spots... blue lagoon, geyser tour and hopefully (weather permitting) the northern lights.

Clearly it’s expensive there so one less night means less expense, but also wouldn’t want to be rushed.

Will have two young kiddies at home with their grandparents too so if 2 nights is feasible then happy with that also.

Opinions please & any tips on where to stay / what to do. Thanks x

We stayed at Hotel Fron on the main shopping street - it was great. We had five nights- personally I wouldn’t go for less than three. 😃

We went for 3 and it was perfect. We fitted everything in we wanted to do. You’re right, it is pricey out there though so look for a hotel that has breakfast included to save some money there. We stayed at the Centerhotel Midgadur. Was really close to a tour pick up and drop off spot.

I would say no less than 3 nights, we stayed at The Hotel Skuggi which was perfect with breakfast included and in a brilliant location.

Check Icelandair for holidays - many are 3 night. We did the blue lagoon / northern lights trip and felt that it was good value for money. We stayed in the Hotel Klettur which was close to the main shopping area. We also paid locally to do the Golden Circle tour which is a must do. Amazing scenery and very varied.

We went for 3 nights, you need a whole day to do the golden circle tour. We booked an apartment through Tripadviser, right down by the sea front.
