Indirect flight jfk airport help pls
Hi
As I can’t get miles return flight with virgin I’ve looked into doing a delta flight from Orlando to JFK which I’m booking direct with delta then using miles to get from jfk to Gatwick. My question is as my flights are separate bookings how easy is it to collect baggage and check in again I’ve never gone indirect Thanks |

Coming from Orlando you will be on an internal flight so that should be quick and easy off as no immigration. Waiting for luggage will be what takes the time. But then check in and through security.
The issue with your plan is you are not on a joint ticket. If your plane to jfk gets delayed your uk flight will go without you and you won't get bumped to a later flight. You would have to buy a new ticket. I was thinking about doing the same thing with Avios, but i was going to add a couple of nights in NYC to avoid that risk. In the end didn't do it as it all got quite tricky with arriving amd departing different airports, getting a taxi to somewhere worth staying and back again and it would have been quite a bit of hassle and cost. Might have done it if older kids or no kids but ours are young. |

Its no problem collecting luggage however you may need to change terminals with your luggage before you check in again.
The biggest issues is with delays on your MCO to JFK flight and the consequence of missing your LGW flight as the post above states if you have done Online Checkin for your flight from JFK to LGW you might be able to get the checkin staff at MCO to route your luggage direct MCO/JFK/LGW however that would depend on the staff etc. If you do this route make sure you build in plenty of contingency time for delays ! |
