I was thinking about your daughter this morning, and wondering how she was getting on.
It sounds like she needs some proper, advanced wound healing dressings. I would definitely get her seen by the practice nurse tomorrow. I wouldn't use the pharmacist for woundcare advice in your case. |

As an ex wound care specialist it sounds to me as if there is much more that could be done to clean and dress the wound. Showering doesn’t harm wounds at all, in fact it’s good for them. Cleaning the wound with diluted aqueous iodine solution helps.

i would have expected it to be a lot better by now, ring your Doctors surgery or 111 for advice.

My daughter’s boyfriend had a mole removed a few months ago, and had a similar experience as your daughter, minus the diabetes complication.
He ended up having frequent visits to the practice nurse, to have dressings changed, after two courses of antibiotics. It ended up being about 6 weeks until it closed fully. Definitely go back, plus have the conversation with her diabetic team about the additional complications.

I would go straight away to A and E . I don't trust doctors or hospitals anymore and would definitely get a 2nd opinion asap. But there again my local hospital is on the list of one of the 10 worst hospitals in the country, so I always go 26 miles down the road to the hospital that isn't on that list. ! But I wouldn't leave it over the weekend.

This is not at all appropriate for A+E, complete misuse of the service. 😣
It is neither an accident or an emergency. GPs surgery is definitely appropriate and if further advice is needed they will contact tissue viability nurse. |

Just a quick update. Wound no better this morning. Rang clinic and basically they won’t do much until this course of antibiotics are finished (Monday morning) so we need to continue as we are doing BUT if her bloods continue to be high or she hits ketones again we must go straight to A&E

Two questions:
Does she have specialised dressing on the wound or is it just a posh plaster? Do you have an urgent care centre nearby even if it’s not your local hospital? We have our major trauma centre and our local hospital which has an urgent care centre as well as A&E. It’s the middle ground between walk in GP and A&E- but if there’s one not too far away I’d definitely suggest that. Keep an eye on her for any signs of sepsis and encourage her to drink plenty. Yes she’s on antibiotics but if they’re not the right ones then she could still be at risk. Wounds and diabetics aren’t exactly simple so I’m annoyed they don’t seem very concerned from what you’ve said. Hope she’s okay xx P.S. sorry if I’m telling you to suck eggs |

Glad you know this isn't an emergency. But with the young lady being diabetic and having high sugars in her bloods and an infected leg, I would err on the side of caution and cut out the middle man. As it is, the advice given is to go to A and E if blood sugar doesn't go down. I am more concerned about her having high bloods than her leg as my friend's son lost his life through diabetes . But I wouldn't come on here saying not to go to A& E cos it's not an emergency because what constitutes an emergency ?
