Accommodation in Vancouver

Hi, I am looking for tips on where to stay in Vancouver. Knowing very little at the moment I am wondering where is a good area. We will be there for approximately 5 nights in August and we will probably spend another 5 on Vancouver island. I rather fancy an Airbnb because we will already have spent 10 nights in Calgary/Banff and I will be wanting a washing machine and the ability to cook for myself if possible. I tend to get fed up of eating out every day. Any advice would be appreciated. We do prefer to have something within walking distance and there will be two adults and a sixteen year old.

We stayed in Yaletown and loved that location. We walked to most places, although did use the Hop on Hop off bus one day.

I’m sure another a Dibber used an Airbnb place close to where our hotel was. Will see if I can find their report for you.

Thank you, I will take a look at that area. It sounds good if you can walk to places or have easy access to public transport. I have always enjoyed your trip reports by the way.

Thank you. That’s so kind.

Another reason I liked Yaletown is that there were plenty of restaurant options close by. It had a lovely feel in the evening and I never once felt uneasy.

I’ve found the trip report I mentioned - here’s the link: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...4#post10964514

Yaletown also had a metro station, which can take you to the Canada Place area within a couple of stops - we found that useful when our feet hurt from walking!

We stayed on Burrard Street. It's right in the centre and therefore walking distance to just about anywhere except the Mall at Metropolis which isn't worth going to anyway as we discovered😀. It's close to a Metro station which connects to the airport too.

Thank you some very useful suggestions. I am going to look at Airbnb tomorrow as not been feeling well over the last few days. We have 8 nights to split between Vancouver and Vancouver island any suggestions how we should split it? We will have been to Calgary and Banff before for 9 nights and will be ending with a cruise so want to do Vancouver island before Vancouver.

Good to hear as we're staying at The Burrard in Burrard Street. 😁 We were thinking of getting the Metro from the airport as it looks quite straightforward. 😁
