We were booked with TC MAN - MCO. We have just booked BA LGW - MCO, 2 x adults and 2 x kids for £1255. We are now looking at the best way to get to Gatwick. Not sure I want to drive, don't mind driving there but I know I won't want to drive on the way home

National Express is cheap but not sure I can cope with over 7 hours on a coach and 9 on a plane

I need to look at trains I think xx

We live on the border of South Yorkshire/Derbyshire and always fly to Florida from London. Drive down the night before and then either indirect from LHR or direct from LGW.

A few options for local hotels and parking choice (we always use onsite and keep keys).

From the northwest the options without the LHR-LGW connection are either
Coach : long journey 7+ hours
Car : drive down day before stay over, but unless you have 2 drivers the drive back can be a little challenging.
Train : direct to Euston and walk to St pacncras and for the thameslink to Gatwick. Then the same coming back, at least you can sleep on the piece back from Euston.

As an alternative we fly Man-LHR-Mia as this meant no transfer between airports and staying in Miami overnight , up early and in Orlando well before lunch was a good option.

You can’t be far from where I live! Also on the border of South Yorkshire/Derbyshire. Near the Woodhead by any chance?

We have only done LGW-MCO once and it was horrible for DH driving back on the return (to Merseyside). We tend to favour Virgin flights either direct to MCO or via ATL. We have also done MAN AMS JFK TPA (returning TPA-ATL-MAN) with KLM/Delta which was a long day but ok. I We have also done MAN-PHL-MCO, returning via Chicago and LHR, which was OK Except for LHR feeling chaotic and the transfers and security being horrible - seemed to take ages. I would prefer to change at a US or European airport than a U.K. one and ensure we only have a short drive when we return to the U.K. and avoid changing at LHR.

We’ve ended up booking from Gatwick. We both drive so we can share the burden

We are flying MAN to LHR on the Friday night and transferring to LGW and staying in the Premier Inn, flying to Tampa the next morning. Flying back TPA to MAN via PHL hoping it will almost will feel like a direct flight rather than trying to drive back from LGW when super tired!
