Naples crowds

Naples seems to be very popular with Dibbers looking for a place on the gulf coast but because it has so much going for it I wonder if it's always pretty busy?

We only spent a day there and most of that was on the beach and pier but I just found it so crowded compared to everywhere else we visited. Admittedly it was on a Saturday at the start of the US school holidays in May! It's put me off returning in future but did I just pick a bad time to visit?

Yes you picked a bad time- I go regularly and aside from weekends it is not normally that busy. Sounds like you were also at the pier - there are lots of beaches in Naples, some almost deserted. Whilst fairly popular, I like Lowdermilk Park.

I thought that was the case. It was my idea to go to the pier and despite the crowds, we saw a beautiful sunset and plenty of dolphins but it was just a shock to the system after hanging around Sanibel and similarly quiet places Lowdermilk looks perfect.

It's always going to be crowded at the pier in Naples. DH and I took a stroll one night at sunset and it was mobbed!

Plenty of quiet beaches though to go to. We hired a boat one day, took a fishing trip another and both days ended up between Naples and Marco Island where there were lots of deserted beaches. So much wildlife too. We also drove 20 mins or so to the smallest post office for a postcard to send to my dad and then on another couple of minutes to HP williams Wayside to view the gators and turtles, again 4 other cars there. We didn't venture to any other beaches as we are sand lovers but maybe next time.

Shows how different people see things we have always loved Naples ever since first visiting in our 20’s 🙂

OP peak months are Christmas - Easter it’s a nightmare to get a car park space and the rooms are almost triple the cost of the summer etc as it’s so popular with northern Americans come down for some winter sun.

We were in Naples a few weeks ago and loved it. My goodness what a gorgeous beach, the sea was so warm and lovely it felt like being in a bAth!
