Marathon or Islamorada in the Keys for 1 night?

Hi guys,

We are staying 2 nights in Key West then 1 night somewhere else in the Keys.
I was thinking Marathon or Islamorada.
Hit me with your preference :-)

I have not been yet, but am going end of April next year - we have chosen Marathon as we want to do the turtle hospital and the dolphin research centre which are in Marathon.

I have seen both areas recommended on here before though

I want to do those too. If we end up in Islamorada then we could always do them en route to the hotel I suppose.

I’ve booked 2 nights in Marathon, again Turtle hospital and dolphin place. I booked hotels through Booking.com, have already amended 2 for cheaper prices! All the Keys hotels seem expensive(could be due to exchange rate though), so any saving is a good saving!

I know, it's almost the same for 2 nights in the Keys as a week's villa hire in Orlando! Although I've just got a reasonable (for the Keys, lol) deal on a house boat in Key West.

I've just booked the courtyard by Marriott in Marathon for 1 night (cancellable ). It looks lovely ☺

Marathon is busier with more things to do, Islamorada is more laid back.

We've stayed in Islamorada several times. Not sure what kind of accommodation you're looking for, but we liked Hadley House (pretty pricey last time I looked, but very nicely newly renovated - was Days Inn) and Breezy Palms (laid-back Keys mom-and-pop kind of place and nothing fancy, but quite reasonable prices for the Keys).

We’ve booked this too! Looks really nice.

We stayed at limetree bay resort, it was lovely ,Islamorada. The hotel was fab too
