Help with Virgin reward flights

Hi All - need your collective words of wisdom

We are looking to return to Orlando next July/August and have managed to secure outbound reward flights (currently on hold) for 25th July ex Manchester.

The problem now is our return flights on 8th August. Revenue flights are available but no reward flights. I'm checking almost hourly, but nothing other than indirect UC yet

Can anyone with more experience with redeeming flying club miles help us out - are we being unrealistic in expecting to get reward flights for early August or do we just need to wait it out? Its unlikely we can do the trip if we don't get the reward flights so you can understand the frustration given we have worked hard to save the points!

We have never been able to get reward flights , we just use our miles now to upgrade to premium

They will come out, you just have to keep checking. It’s not like it used to be when they’d release reward seats when the cash ones are out. They seem to release dates in batches now but there is no set pattern.

You don't need to have the return to secure the outbound. If I were you I'd snap up the outbound and then just keep checking - with it being early August and Manchester, you're going to have to be super on the ball though. Good luck!

Thanks for this - my worry is then not getting the return flights and being stuck with paying for super expensive one way flights on the return

Im trying to be super on the ball :-) I've got an award flight alert set up with Expert Flights and Im checking VA almost hourly!

How long will they hold the outbound?

We got reward flights this year for flying out on the 13th August & returning on the 1st September and when i was searching they had quite a lot of other avalability so peak/August rewards do come up you just have to keep searching. If your return hasn't come up by the time your hold period ends just book it if you need to cancel at a later stage you get all your points back just have to pay an admin fee of about £10/£15 per person

If you’ve got enough points for the indirect Upper Class, consider booking that then you have at least got your flights. Then if a direct one becomes available somewhere down the line then you can change. It may cost you about £30 per person to do the change, but probably worth it.

We have the hold on the outbound until 11pm on the 20th
