Any insurance experts? I’m confused
We have annual travel insurance with virgin travel insurance and I contacted them yesterday for information as we have Thomas cook flights booked for our April trip (bought with credit card). Our insurance renewal date is January. They told me I wasn’t covered for anything for that holiday. I asked him to check with a supervisor and he did and stated the same thing. I just can’t see the point in having an annual policy now and have taken cover with another company as they were quite unhelpful. Is this right?

Flights only aren’t covered by ATOL. The next step is end supplier failure insurance. If you don’t have that, your credit card will deal with your claim.
Good luck x |

Yes maybe but that does rather ask the question what’s the point of annual travel insurance? The packaged “continuing” insurance available through banks certainly covers you for future holidays I can’t really see how they can sell an annual policy and you aren’t covered for an “insurable event” that happens whilst the policy is in force-even if the holiday is due to happen after the annual renewal date.
I’m no expert but if I had a claim actually turned down I would be going to the ombudsman Edited at 12:06 PM. |

I expect it's because there is a potential issue with the trip (TC going bust) before your renewal date meaning it's not covered.
I agree, it's catch22. You have annual trip insurance which you renew annually...

I think some companies will cover you as long as you had insurance with them when the holiday was booked and at the time of cancellation or claim. So if you stick with the same insurance company for 2 years you are likely to be covered.
However check the small print to be sure. Maybe an issue for those people who book over an year in advance
