Arrow car hire insurance/cover?

hi, can anyone tell me if I need to take out any additional insurance when hiring a car?

Included, I have CDW and extended protection.

Do I need anything else?

Hi. The very fact you have used the words extended protection I assume you have an Alamo car, am I right?
Alamo use the term EP whereas most use the term SLI which is supplementary liability insurance being the same thing.

Who have you rented from?

Normally these 2 insurances are all you need but you can add on roadside assistance albeit most don't. If you do want it go DIY as its half the price compared to the rental companies. Let me know if you want details.

Yes your right, it’s with Alamo. Is roadside assistance like RAC/AA cover?

Hi. A bit I suppose.
The bottom line is if the car breaks down they have to fix or tow and/or replace it as that is the norm. If there is no spare tyre they also have to come out.
Roadside assistance covers things like lost keys, misfuelling, punctures where they will then come out and change the wheel for you etc.

The big bonus is lost keys as that is expensive to sort out as key fobs are not cheap!

If you are thinking of going down this route let me know as I know of 2 companies that Dibbers use.

I chance my arm and dont buy it and havent done so in 41 years of renting out there.

How does the deposit work with Alamo? My husband is the driver. Can I pay cash for the car hire? Or Can I use my Credit card? Can I use a different credit card ( in husband name) for the deposit?

8 days until your trip. Haven't you booked the car yet?

Yes booked months ago with Alamo. (first time booking car hire separate, usually book it has part of a package) just trying to clarify what forms of payment and deposit they will accept.

In the past I've had a voucher for the car hire and left cash for the deposit. Ideally this time id like to pay for the hire with my credit card (although I'm not the driver) and the deposit with Husbands Credit card, depending on how much deposit they will take?

I always pay in advance with Alamo so I am not an expert on the pay later scenario.

I would get your Husband to pay at the desk for the deposit and also present his card at the barrier. However when the remainder is due on return you will have to be quick to ensure they dont just hit the card they have on file being your Husbands. They can change the card but that needs to be communicated to the Guy checking the car in.
I'm fairly sure I am right on this but double check.

I was under the impression that you have to pay the car hire cost on arrival. I’ve probably just assumed that’s how it works. I would have preferred to pre pay but I didn’t get the option to do that when I booked online. I hope I’ve not done it wrong

You may be right. As I say I have never done the pay later

Actually you almost certainly are right as it says pay on arrival
