Us too! paid for Economy bubble on way out and booked ELR seats yesterday would you believe ... would have been nice to be told, I'll be livid if they open up free seat booking to existing bookings as I only booked ELR to allocate seats and thought for £15 extra they were better value.

So if we have booked previous to the changes being implemented then we will still have to pay for seat allocation I'm guessing?

I bet not, got to be one system, so reckon they'll offer free seat booking for all but the new lite class. If the last system change is anything to go by, no doubt itll be a disaster.

If they are offering free seat booking - you can bet the general price will go up.

Also - why are people linking the higher EC class to the ELR seats - it mentions seat pitch but nothing to do with legroom ?

Just a guess 31' is standard economy, 34' is seat pitch in ELR

While seat pitch doesn't always equate to legroom, its still a useful indicator of legroom being the measurement from the same position on two seats, one behind the other.
Virgin are simply taking some seats out to move the same seats further apart for 'Economy delight', I'd say its reasonable to link the two.

But how will you know? As we know flight prices are dynamic and change regularly so you wont be able to make a direct comparison.

This is exactly the same as Delta offer so it isn't surprising that VA have gone down this route too. Delta offer Economy+, Economy and Base fare which correlates pretty closely to Delight, classic and light.

BA have already announced "Hand-luggage" only fares on their long haul flights. I don't suppose Delta are the only US airline to do it either - its the waythe industry is going. It enables the carrier to offer better headline fares for comparison websites to compete with the likes of Norwegian.

At least they are offering you the choice - if you want the lowest fares then they are available, if you want extras "included" then you have that choice too.

Seems like a sensible option to me.

As an aside, if we use Delta as the guide (and that seems reasonable given their links) when you book a reward seat with Delta (using Virgin Miles) you are given the middle tier Economy (with included seat allocation) so I don't see why you wouldn't get "Classic" with a Virgin redemption

Does the above mean i am able to use Virgin air miles/reward seat and book a Delta flight? Virgin website says no. Would i book on the Delta site?

Hope that makes sense.
