Just about to book a trip to China - info on Disney Shanghai please?
So we are just about to book a trip to China. it's a 2 week tour starting in Shanghai and we are flying out 3 days early specifically to do Disney so excited!
Bear with me as I've only ever been to WDW and DLP so basing my questions on those. So as I gather there are two hotels, the Toy Story one and the Disneyland hotel - I think we will go for the Toy Story as the theming sounds great. IS there anything else to consider? Are there shuttles from the hotels to the parks? Do they do any sort of dining package there? i haven't seen a mention of it anywhere. We will have 3 days but can see they only do 1&2 day tickets - does that mean it only takes 2 days to go around and we should only go for the 2 days? I think they have the old paper FP system like DLP still have. I've also seen mention of paid FP's - how do these work? Thank you so much in advance

Im in the same boat as you, we are off to Thailand, but going via Shanghai so I can complete the Disney Parks, only Shanghai left to do.
We are looking at the Toy Story hotel too, the price is decent too. As far as I'm aware, the fastpasses only are for hotel guests, and become available on the day. |

Also looking at tripadvisor now, the hotel is walking distance to the park, but they also run a shuttle bus

This is my fist foray into the Asia parks, done all the western ones so a bit anxious about the 'unknown' and language barrier but I'm sure it will be fine. The thing I am most nervous about is getting from the Airport to Disney, doesn't look like they have a shuttle service and I've read the taxi drivers don't speak English.

We went October this year stayed at the Toy story hotel. Parks are within walking distance but if you are staying onsite the shuttles are very regular and will take you directly to the hotel guest only entrance, the queue here is much shorter, they will check your tickets and do bag security before placing you in a holding pen line so you get a jump start on others. I didnt find any dining plan options, food and drink in the parks is expensive compared the rest of china but is comparable to America.
We had two full days and did it to death, its quite a small park and we found if we got there early in the morning ride queues were reasonable so went on everything a fair few times. We also went over a weekend so in theory it was busy. Fastpasses are booked through an app on your phone, make sure you download it before you go as we were on android phones and could no longer access the app store in China. You book one and then cannot book another until I think it was two hours later. Paper ones are available but there is only one place to get them printed and alot of the machines seemed to be covered up when we went, the Chinese use their phones for everything. Not sure on paid fastpasses, we wouldn't have needed them. If I can help with anything else just ask

Hunt out “thisNatasha” on YT - she has done several trips to China and her videos cover many / most things you have asked about.

Download Google translate before you go, so if you don’t have internet access, you can still use the translator, works really well.
Don’t worry to much about not speaking the language, most menus have pictures. We also found in Shanghai, there was always somebody about that would try and help you. Don’t forget you must carry your passport around with you. You need it to buy train tickets, and to check into hotels. We stay in Hangzhou (son works there) an hours train ride from Shanghai, and the strangest part for us, is people taking photos of Western people 😀 |
