Definitely dont book a weekend in Vegas. Hotel prices are often 3 times the price, compared to week days. Book a hotel asap with free cancellation then if any conferences are scheduled you have your price locked in. You can book a year ahead of time. Love the west coast

Weekday traffic in San Diego during rush hours can get heavy- not to LA levels though- and Friday afternoons are always the busiest. Comic Con week in July brings a huge crowd of visitors to the city and all the attractions get busier than usual, plus all the hotels raise prices during Comic Con week, too. I would avoid visiting during that time. Other that that, San Diego is pretty easy to navigate at most times. 😊

Be prepared for expensive parking or a motel type accomodation with parking which is a bit further out from the main areas.

You can always drop the car and pick up another a few days later.

Other thing to consider in Vegas is hotels where you have to pay for parking and also the resort fees on top of the hotel pricing.

Hi, as mentioned generally avoid Friday afternoons/evenings and the same on Sundays - much as in the UK you get lot's of weekenders making trips.

Also around the LA coast cities you'll find that (in Summer) traffic flows to the coast at the start of the day and then in reverse later in the day.

Time of year makes a difference - we've always found that in August in LA the traffic is generally lighter than other times due to holidays etc.

But traffic can be a nightmare at anytime and unpredictable. Have a good satnav and especially around LA it's often quicker to come off the freeways and use the surface streets when traffic starts to build.
