So I have bought some books on Florida wildlife including birds, reptiles and animals. We are hoping to go off the beaten track a bit to spot some native wildlife, (we are experienced herpetologists), so really interested to hear any stories of seeing Florida wildlife up close, especially snakes, gators, eagles etc. One friend claimed he got up one morning to find a snake in his plunge pool 🙂

Saw Coyotes near Disney!

Plenty of wildlife at these places

Orlando Wetlands
Lake Apopka wildlife park
Circle B Wildlife refuge
Lake Woodruff
Merrit Island Wildlife refuge.

The Lazy H ranch at Kissimmee might appeal to you. It is small, run as a pastime as much as a business, horses only go out once a day and the owner is absolutely terrific. My family thought it amazing, even though only my wife has previous riding experience.

The trek was around the lake used by Boggy Creek and Wild Willys airboats. After a ride, you can walk out on the ground covered.

Just added some photos to my post and a trip report link by personal message. Many seem to forget that there are numerous other things besides theme parks in the area.
Walt did not actually create the area or the culture that abounds within.. in fact when you look at Wilderness Lodge and his other now Derelict park, quite the contrary.. unless of course, there were some ‘Benjamins’ to be made!

Boggy Creek also has a (semi resident) Native American Indian on the site who has built a camp and does a rather informative, very humorous presentation of Native American Culture and History... and Gators of course.

You only have to ask our neighbors about the snake in the pool drain the whole street heard me screaming or the fishing one irate squirrel out our pool when he came through a roof screen
Just sit by the pool and you will see loads
The Apoka wild life drive might be worth looking at for you

We saw lots of wildlife near the villa we stayed at last time. Frog in the pool, armadillos digging near the entrance of the community, raccoons on bin night, stick insects warming up on the garage door, little lizards everywhere, eagles and vultures in the trees by the roadsides... then turkeys turning into Disney property, deer seen from the railroad in MK. Gators and turtles on the way to Kennedy Space Centre.

And many, many birds... herons, egrets, cranes, and loads of little red cardinals.

We are toying with a trip to KSC so that would kill 2 birds with 1 trip. Whereabouts was the villa you stayed please ?
