If you only had 7 days
Due to a work trip, I may get to have 7 days on the West Coast with 2 of my work colleagues. I have suggested a mini road trip having done a more extensive one in 2019 with the family. Flights would probably be in and out of LAX. My thoughts are a loop from Redondo beach (where we are staying for work) to Palm Springs, down to San Diego and back to LA, maybe ending up in Santa Monica.
If you only had 7 days what would your road trip look like? Ideally I would love to drive up to Vegas but I’m not sure my colleagues would enjoy it and it would be too far to do a loop back to LA - or mean we would miss out on other things because of the time taken. |

My 7 days would look pretty much like yours.
If you were to head North, then it is a long way to the top attractions (other than some beaches) and therefore South looks a better bet. Santa Monica is a great place to finish as flights are generally late afternoon and it places you just 7 miles from LAX. We did a really good Hollywood tour from there before flying home. You will find detail in the California N to South trip report link in my signature.

Another vote here for your existing plans. I would do exactly the same - more sightseeing time, less driving.
Are you planning on doing anything in Palm Springs? I love the place but it’s quite a detour for your trip. |

I love Palm Springs and think it’s a fabulous town. Each time we’ve relaxed there in a great hotel and went out for a nice meal at night but you can be very active there if you’re so inclined. The drive from San Diego isn’t bad so you could go San Diego - PS - LA.

I second all that. Palm Springs is pretty special place - you can chill or be active. Surrounded by the most amazing and dramatic mountains plus the down town area is very walkable. The weekly street fair is wonderful too - it has a buzz abut it and bags of charm too. It is by far my most favourite place in CA/USA/World and the drive is pretty easy to LA, Bear Mountain, San Diego or even Vegas
