It was a really nice way to see the coast and we would do it again. You can cycle all the way to long beach if you so desire as its one big cycle route but we were too lazy for that.
Can I ask how long it took to cycle from Santa Monica to Venice Beach? Thanks

It's a lovely scenic drive though, stop off at Solvang and Carmel, maybe Santa Barbara as well. What more could you ask for.

It's only a couple of miles along from Santa Monica pier to Venice Beach. We had an early morning jog there and back a few years ago and covered no more than 5 miles there and back

We did the Warner Bros Studio tour in the morning, had lunch then headed over to Santa Monica. We walked along the beach, watched the sunset and then walked along the pier. Only an hour or two if you don't want to swim. We found the pier quite tacky and overpriced. I had wanted to rent a bike and cycle down to Venice Beach but the sun was already setting so didn't bother. Not sure I would go back again.
