Garmin vs Tom-Tom

Will have to start travelling through London for work on a regular basis - am considering a satnav to help me navigate, avoid congestion charge, etc.

Spotted both brands on Amazon - have been at similar prices to include Lifetime maps - any recommendations please?

Never been a fan of Satnav before & can't see myself using one for more than London - travel all over the country & haven't needed one before, so don't need something all singing & dancing.

Thanks in advance,
Hayley.

I originally had a Tom tom, when it got nicked from my car I replaced it with a garmin, I love my garmin. In the past I have also downloaded talking books to it (audible.com) and used to listen to books while driving. It also had lots of other functions. It's nice and flat, easy to slip in a handbag, and picks up the satellites and routes really quickly.
So I would highly recommend a Garmin... but that's my personal experience..

We have a Garmin and never had any problems with it. My brother has a Tom-Tom (or should I say several Tom-Tom's as it was replaced many times due to problems). As it happens due to do some remote diagnostics with him this week as the latest one is no longer recognized on his laptop ) Maybe he's just unlucky, but that's my only experience of them

Garmin all the way for us , our tom-tom kept switching off so DH rang Tom-Tom they told him they would have to send it to Holland to get it fixed.
so it went to the tip.
I do loads of car boot sales & Tom-Toms are always for sale! not sure what that says.

Only used Garmin and had it for a some years now. We bought ours in Walmart in Orlando, it wasn't available in England at the time; we paid half the price of similar ones here. I also use it here, no probs so far. We got a large screen, slim line, with lifetime updates and love it.

Love our Garmin! We bough a TomTom in Florida this year as we wanted something more up to date as our garmin is getting on a bit and took it back after a day as we didn't like it. Got a new Garmin now and love it.
