What tickets?
Stay and Scream works with any HHN ticket as long as you also have daytime admission to the park. All the prices for HHN tickets are on Universals website.

My husband a friends husband are going on 23rd October, they only have one night to do it so we purchased them the express pass, if we were going earlier or they had a few days to cover it I wouldn’t bother

The first night you go I would use the Simpsons area holding zone. They generally take you to the back of the park around Men in Black. Here you should be able to do 3 houses minimum - possibly 4 depending on how quickly the crowd moves through the park. After that use the park app to keep a check on queue times and hit another house accordingly. If you want to stay later use the time to enjoy the scare zones and show.
On the second night - provided its not a Friday - go to Finnegans holding zone as early as you can and try to get to the head of the queue that will release you to Stranger Things. If last year is anything to go by this will be the longest queue from the start of the night to the end and you shouldn't be surprised if you see times of greater than 3 hours. Do this house first then come out and head for the houses around the back of Jimmy Fallon. You may get 2 or 3 done before the queues start to grow.
The other holding zone they use is the Hello Kitty area for the house that is behind Shrek. Once you have done this one you can head over to Barnies play area and knock out a couple of the houses quickly as the exits normally lead to the entrance for another one.
Over the course of 3 nights we have easily done all the houses - then on return visits focused on our favourites.
Thanks for this ,I have got the BOGOF tickets for our visit (last 2 wks Sept) and never been before. Want to avoid getting express passes so this snippet of info will help. Dont have Universal tickets as doing Disney this time around.

If you don't have Universal tickets you won't be able to utilise Stay and Scream as this only works if you are in the park prior to them kicking our non HHN ticket holders.

We are there pretty much the same time as you. We have the BOGOF tickets and have chosen to go on two Thursdays (I think 3rd and 10th October) as we’re hoping they will be the quietest! We will also be doing stay and scream on both nights.

we where there last October and fitted in everything easily over our 2 nights. Absolutely no need for express passes.

This is one heck of a sweeping statement and I would take this with a pinch of salt.
I agree that it is possible to do it over two nights, but what if you can only go on a Friday and Saturday? You would be lucky to get half the houses done on both nights let alone all. If you go on what is deemed a peak night you will see a huge difference in wait times, and will likely be over an hour per house, and more than 3 hours for the popular ones.
It also comes down to how you want to spend your time. If you are happy stood in a queue for 5-6 hours of the night then you will probably get a lot of houses done. But in doing this you will miss out on enjoying the scare zones and shows and the essence of what HHN is about.
1 or 2 nights and I would get an EP. More than that and Stay and Scream will work well.

This is the fourth year for us going, and we never use the express pass for Halloween horror nights, easily doable over two nights all houses.
biggest wait we’ve ever had is an hour for a house.
We’ve managed to see all the scare zones and do everything we wanted , from straight out of the holding pen as soon as it’s started , we even people watch and laugh at everybod6 getting the bejesus scared out of them by scare actors.
Take your time, do half the houses one night, half the next night and do scare zones in between .

We will be going on the Thursday 17th October for one night and will definitely be purchasing the express passes. We have been a few times before the last time 4 years ago, again on a Thursday. We always do stay and scream and did about 4 houses then the wait was approx 2 hours for the rest.
So this year decided it’ll be worth the passes even though they are expensive. Was going to do RIP tour but coming up as £200 extra. Can’t really justify the extra money.
